Day 1 - Make the world taste better trip by Kansai-7 (Bandung, 2011)

Hi All,
It has been a while. No news from Uncomfortable10, this is due to the fact that Uncomfortable10 had been busy for the past 1 years (Well, Unc10 is not our full time club house).

While everybody is still busy with works, wedding preparation, dieting and coding, we finally managed to spend 3 wonderful days in Bandung. We need this trip to define our existence and the initial objective of Unc10. In addition, this trip was needed as a way for us to define a new set of directions for Unc10.

Before I start summarizing the detail trips in Bandung, I would like to take this opportunity to discuss about Kansai-7. We had been bombarded with lot of questions in regard to Kansai-7 via email as well sms. To avoid any confusion or issue arising in the future, below are mini FAQs prepared by Kansai-7 to attend to your questions.

FAQs
1. What is Kansai-7? What is the relationship between Kansai-7 and Uncomfortable10?
First and foremost, we love Uncomfortable10. Uncomfortable10 was sincerely built with the main objective was to assist its member in any situations (in reality, the members went to Uncomfortable10 council only when they was hit by any problem/issue and will completely forget the existence of this club when they were happy. But we are fine with that.).

However, along the way, we realized there were some gaps in Uncomfortable10's Code of Conducts. I extracted below some of the gaps:-
  • You can't use Uncomfortable10 commercially. Uncomfortable10 was built for pleasure and that will remain. It goes without saying the word 'Uncomfortable' is not suitable to be used for any business-related purposes.
  • Were based on 15 principles. Those principles defined our Code of Conducts. Defined our way of thinking back then when we were young. But as age is catching up, some of those conducts were not generally acceptable anymore. It ain't easy to go back to a drawing board just to change those principles (because some of the founders cannot be contacted).
  • The framework is not agile and not flexible. We tried. Yes, we did try to change some of Uncomfortable10's Code of Conducts, but we failed miserably. The principles of Uncomfortable10 were related to each other. You change one, it will affect the others. In a nutshell, it was not built with Object Oriented-architecture. It was built to be fragile and not agile. It was built for disaster.
  • Historically, Uncomfortable10 makes people uncomfortable. No comment. Seriously.
Hence, we have decided to work on new Code of Conducts that will be able to address above-mentioned drawbacks. These new conducts are somehow led to the creation of Kansai-7.

2. So, what is "Kansai"? and what is "7"? Why can't you guys call it Kansai-300? Ada apa pada nombor?
The new Uncomfortable10 (aka Kansai-7) have 7 core principles that are agile. It is really agile to the extend that you can derive more principles from those 7 core principles. That's why we add "7" at the end of the Kansai.

Why "Kansai"? To be honest, it is just clicked. We just decided to use Kansai without any apparent reason. So, stop speculating. :-).

3. Have you made any money out of Kansai-7?
Kansai-7 remains as non-profit organization, nevertheless, Kansai-7 owns Inspire Trading. Inspire Trading is the money maker for Kansai-7. We do not want to talk further on Inspire Trading on this post, just email us if you need more information.

But I digress, let's we go back to the main topic here. I should be talking on our trip to Bandung instead of focusing on Kansai/Uncomfortable10. From your point of view, it is remains the same.

Today's post will summarize day 1 of our trip.

Are you ready??

Buckle Up, It's Going to Be a Bumpy Ride.

We touched down Bandung Airport around 1.30pm. Although we had to face loadddd of obstacles for the next three days, the beginning of our obstacles started off with Adli. The airport staff interrogated Adli because he was wearing a pair of New-Balance shoes. Personally, it was just another shoes worn by an average-Joe hailed from Gunung Rapat, Ipoh.

All the questions from the airport staff were simply responded by Adli by saying, These shoes Are Made For Walking (Jessica Simpson's style)

Waiting for Adli.

We were greeted by Pak Ady who was our Supir. Paid him 1 million Rupiah over the course of 3 days. Thanks to Safri. He worked hard to find the best and affordable place for all of us. He has came here multiple times, so his experiences underpin his judgement in selecting the right places and pak supir. (Unfortunately, we still got pow-ed also. Twice).

Picture took by Pak Supir.

We had decided to check-in first and sembahyang zuhur before going out. Initially, there were quite number of hotels that had been shortlisted by us, eventually we opted with Hotel Cemerlang. FYI, Hotel Cemerlang is located just beside Hilton's Hotel. Hotel Cemerlang is not 4-5 stars hotel but it is a decent hotel. Lot of Malaysian had stayed at this hotel too. We were not really particular with the quality of the hotel. However, the hotel must meet the following simple requirements:-
  • It makes us feel safe.
  • The breakfast is halal.
and Hotel Cemerlang met those conditions. We will spend most of our entire time definitely not in hotel, so why bother choosing five stars hotel.

Otw to Hotel Cemerlang.

Check in time. Safri's face indicated how excited he was. Adli's too. And Adli remained excited till the end of the trip.

In the room.

It was almost 3pm. We decided to make it with lunch first before making a move to Pasar Baru. We dropped by at Restoran Simpang Raya to have a good lunch.

Overall, all of us (5 persons) had to pay Rupiah 43,000/ per person for the lunch. It was a good lunch. I mean, you can get a cheaper lunch that this, but be ready to get hit by Mr Stomachache.

Advise #1 : Choose a decent restaurant. You are here to have fun. If you were the unlucky one, possibly you will spend the rest of your entire trip in your hotel's room. Sakit perut.

Full of food. Sleepy. Dizzy. That's in our mind . But those didn't stop us from achieving our main target of the day. Pasar Baru. (Arafat kept on mentioning about Pekan Baru instead of Pasar Baru. It was funny at the beginning, then it was started to get annoyed at the end.)

Pasar Baru is definitely and obviously must-go place if you are in Bandung. If you want to find a good quality of kain (any kind of kain) at very reasonable price. This is the right place for you. Oh wait, did I say 'reasonable price'? My bad. I should not be using 'reasonable price' to indicate how awesome is Pasar Baru. 'immeasurably cheap price' is the right words.

To give you an indication, men's suit tailor made especially for you in Malaysia (with high quality of fabrics) possibly will cause you around RM 1000. However, you can get men's suit here in Pasar Baru with high quality of fabric (e.g Dunhill, D&G) only RM500. Ready-made in one day. Send straight to your hotel.

Arafat (The^Ninja) spent 60% of his money for this trip in Pasar Baru. Hey, it was only first day. But you can't blame him. He was just an innocent guy came here with a big hope and dream. The dream was to make money out of this trip.

Yan Iskandar still remain calm at this time.

Advise #2 : Don't underestimate the power of shopping in Pasar Baru. Perfect combination of the salesman, good quality of kain and immeasurably cheap price that is offered, you potentially will be running out of money in this place only.

Advise #3 : Beware of the pick-pocket.

A glimpse of Pasar Baru.

A variety of selection ready to be purchased by you.

Question : Which baju batik I bought?

Safri ordered a remarkably nice Dunhill's suit.

After Pasar Baru, we headed to Jalan Riau (see map). As world knows, Bandung has countless factory outlet and Jalan Riau is serving some of the outlets. Well-known outlets such as The Secret, The Oasis Outlet, Heritage Outlet and The Summit Outlet are waiting for you with a big smile. The sneaky smiles that would normally entice your to make a lot of purchases.

Walking toward The Secret outlet.

Another factory outlet at Jalan Riau.

We spent almost 3 hours here in Jalan Riau. Lot of things to be purchased, with not so much money can be spent :-( . Since today was our first day here, the visit to Jalan Riau was really meant for 'survey2 dulu'.

Advise #4 : We believe Rumah Mode is better that Jalan Riau's factory outlets. We will discuss about Rumah Mode in the next post.

We had quite a late dinner. In fact, we considered it as supper instead of dinner. Went to Jalan Merdeka and decided to go with KFC.

Well guys, that's it for Day 1. Will update you the detail of Day 2 later. At the same time, enjoy below. We recorded this while eating at KFC. Nice dinner with an awesome company and good music had make our night even nicer.
